WEMO- Notice of Availability of the Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement and Draft Plan Amendment to the California Desert Conservation Area Plan in the West Mojave Planning Area, Inyo, Kern, Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties, CA

The West Mojave Route Network Project (WMRNP) is a travel management planning effort covering 9.24 million acres in the West Mojave area (PDF Map) of the California desert.  Approximately 3.1 million acres in the planning area are public lands managed by the BLM.  The WMRNP supplements the 2006 West Mojave Plan.

WEMO TMA

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has released the Draft Amendment to the California Desert Conservation Area (CDCA) Plan and Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) for the West Mojave Route Network Project, providing guidance and management direction for over three million acres of public lands in San Bernardino, Inyo, Kern, Riverside and Los Angeles counties.

Concurrent with the WMRNP planning effort, the BLM is proposing CDCA LUPA alternatives in the DRECP that include, among other proposals, special area designations and associated management parameters, and which comprise new information that may be considered in the identification of alternatives and the analysis of impacts in the WMRNP. The BLM is considering whether to adjust or add additional alternatives to the WMRNP in response to the proposals in the DRECP. All previously submitted comments will be considered; comments submitted during the initial WMRNP comment period need not be resubmitted.

Documents relevant to this notice may be examined at the California Desert District Office and associated Field Offices in Barstow, Ridgecrest, Needles, Palm Springs, El Centro and at the BLM's California State Office, 2800 Cottage Way, Sacramento, CA 95825 or online at http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/prog/energy/DRECP.html. See DRECP

When reviewing the routes on the maps remember your vehicle must stay on the open marked roads and trails.  Verify the designated routs do in fact go to the collecting areas.   If not,  you have reason to make an input and comment to the WEMO Management Plan.

If you would like assistance working with the pdf maps, please call (951) 697-5258. You may also request a CD of all the maps by calling our office at (760) 252-6021.
